Tools of the Witch

Broom
The broom is sacred to both the Goddess and God. We use the broom not only to clean the dirt from our ritual area you also use it without touching the ground to clean the energy of the people living in the house from the space you are using for your ritual. This purifies the area to allow smoother ritual work. The broom being a purifier is linked with the element of water. It is used also in all types of water spells like love and Psychic working.
You can make your own broom from just about any tree or bush. (If you do this by cutting a limb Please thank the tree or bush for its sacrifice.I also leave a gift of a Pennie or some kind of food for the tree.It is a living life of the God and goddess.)
Ash wood is good for Protection, Birch wood is good for purifying, Willow wood is sacred to the Goddess.

my ash wand!!!

 Wand

The wand is sacred to the Gods and is linked to the element of Air. The wand is one of the tools that can be used for many things. It has been used for thousands of years. The Goddess and God may be called to your ritual with the lifted wand and your call, You can use it to direct energy, draw magical symbols or to cast a circle and stir a brew in a cauldron. You can use any wood as a wand. If it be a piece of wood you find strolling in the woods or a hand made one you buy or make yourself. Also they can be made from crystals.

 Censer

The Incense burner! This is one of my favorite tools because I love to mix my own incense for my rituals and burn them on a charcoal. I always use herbs that are empowered with what I need for a spell or a Sabbat. Like for Samhain (my favorite Sabbat I used Cinnamon and nutmeg and pumpkin. Spices I used in my pumpkin bread I always make for this Sabbat. The smell was so amazing and it was so fitting for the Sabbat.
Whether you make your own or use stick, cone or block incense. The censer is a tool that completes indoor rituals. Just like a fire does for a outdoor ritual. The censer is usually placed on the alter in the middle for the God and Goddesses if you have images on your alter you can place it in front of them. The Element most common to the censer is Air. You can sit and watch the smoke from your incense and It is said that you can see the Goddess and God in the smoke.I have used sage to calm me enough to meditate. I will burn a leaf of white sage in my censer well I listen to my meditation music or a guided meditation.I would breath slow and it helps to calm you after a rough day.

Athame

The magic knife is linked to the God and the Element of Fire. This is the tool that is used for cutting and to direct the energy raised during spells and rituals. Also is a tool of commanding and power manipulation. The Athame is often dull and it usually a double edge knife. The handle is dark or black but not always. You now can buy very elaborate Athames with different designs on it or Deities like the one I put a picture of. When the magic knife is used in a ritual to direct energy a little amount of energy is stored in to the handle. You can call upon this energy for later use. Some Witches engrave their Athame with symbols , words, and runes. You can scratch them on the handle or the blade if you like. This is not something you have to do. Just you using your Athame  and touching it will give it power like any tool you use.
